The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Arthur Dent is rescued from Earth's demolition by his friend Ford Prefect, who turns out to be an alien researcher for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a kind of electronic encyclopedia for galactic travelers. Together they hitch a ride on a Vogon constructor fleet and stumble into an improbable adventure involving Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed President of the Galaxy, Trillian, the only other human survivor, and Marvin, a chronically depressed robot. Originally adapted from Adams's BBC Radio 4 series, the novel became one of the defining works of comic science fiction.
